NLB Sings Agreement with EBRD

Belgrade, 21 May

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Slovenian leading bank Nova Ljubljanska banka (NLB) signed an agreement on Saturday on joint capital investments in the countries of Southeastern Europe.

The document was signed by the EBRD president Jacques Lemierre and NLB chief executive Marjan Kramar at the sidelines of the EBRD annual assembly taking place this weekend in Belgrade.
The assembly runs under the slogan "Building bridges, promoting prosperity", gathering government officials, business people and NGO representatives from around 60 countries.
The Slovenian delegation was headed by Finance Minister Andrej Bajuk, who took part in the annual assembly of the board of EBRD governors on Sunday. NLB also received an award for the best bank in Central and Eastern Europe, according to a survey of the international agency Fitch Ratings.
After being present in Central Europe before, the NLB group has been expanding also in Southeastern Europe.
It bought two banks in Montenegro, 92% of Montenegrobanka in May 2003 and over 80% in Euromarket banka last April.
NLB holds a 17% stake in Macedonia's Tutunska banka, but the group's stake in it reaches almost 74%.
The group is also present in Serbia, the Republic of Srpska, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Just recently, NLB has got the green light from Serb authorities to acquire Continental banka from Novi Sad, where it is after a 98.97% stake.
