Govt Intends to Purchase Remaining Stake in STA
The government has accepted the offer for the purchase of the 3.36% stake in the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) that it does not own already. The owner himself offered to sell, and the government agreed after negotiations to purchase it, government spokesman Jernej Pavlin told the press on Thursday.
Finance Minister Andrej Bajuk said that SIT 3.9m (EUR 16,300) has been earmarked in the 2005 supplementary budget bill for the purchase.
The STA articles of association state that most decisions are taken with the consensus of both owners, the government explained.
Since the purchase of the remaining stake would simplify the taking of strategic and development decisions that are very important for the STA's development and capital increase, the government has decided to accept the offer.
"This paves the way for the possibility that the STA is helped in its further development," Pavlin said.
The owners of STA are the state and Tadej Labernik, a former director of the agency and incumbent ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The purchase will thus make the state the sole owner of the STA.
