Girls' Choir Carmina Slovenica to Perform in Prague and Dresden

Karmina Silec, a leading Slovenian chorus conductor, and her girls' choir Carmina Slovenica will make guest appearances in Prague and Dresden later this week.

The choir will first perform at the Prague Music Museum on 20 May, singing religious chants in a project called Scivias (short for Scito vias Domini, i.e. know the ways of the Lord).
Scivias is composed of religious chants of Hinduism, Islam, the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, Christian missions in Africa and South America, chants of different cultures, such as Australian Aborigines, Lapps, North American Indians, Balinese and the Inuit, as well as contemporary compositions related to the above cultures.
The girls singing in the choir have studied special vocal techniques and they will also demonstrate traditional dance elements of Australian Aborigines, American natives, Eskimos, Central European, Balinese and Africans.
According to Silec, Carmina Slovenica will be performing in the Czech capital at the time of the ongoing 60th Prague Spring international festival, but their concert will not be part of the festival's programme.
The choir will meanwhile be featured at the Dresden festival of classical music on 22 May. The programme they will present there is entitled "Slovenian Sounds" and features compositions by Slovenian composers
Dresdner Musikfestspiele is a festival with centuries long tradition and has been lately attracting a crowd of more than 100,000 visitors a year, plus a number of acclaimed musical experts. It features musicians of world renown.
