Editorial
Following a controversy over how many regions Slovenia should get divided into, party leaders decided it would remain a single cohesion region until the end of the year.
Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, the OSCE chairman, is pleased with the achievements of the first seven months of Slovenia's chairmanship. The organisation has a budget and a new secretary general, and reform talks are under way, Rupel told the press on Monday.

Slovenia should remain one cohesion region until this represents a better option in negotiations on the 2007-2013 budget framework, agreed top party officials at a meeting with PM Janez Jansa on Wednesday. More »

Slovenian foreign minister Dr Dimitrij Rupel said Ljubljana Conclusions is a document that expresses the desire of statesmen, international organisations, non-governmental organisations, experts, children's ombudsmen, and children that everyone should do everything in their power to eradicate violence against children. A truly important step. But one must not forget the tragedy that other forms of violence bring into our everyday lives. We are speaking about terrorism that Slovenia's leaders unanimously condemn.

Slovenia's leaders have issued a unanimous condemnation of the terrorist attack in London. The Prime Minister, Janez Janša, said that there was no justification for such attacks, and the Foreign Minister, Dr Dimitrij Rupel called on Slovenian citizens to be vigilant. According to the information available at present no Slovenian citizens fell victim to the attacks. More »

This summer from 13 to 22 July 2005 the Cankarjev Dom cultural and congress centre will play host to the Slovenian National Theatre's SUMMER OF OPERA AND BALLET. The Ljubljana Opera and Ballet will be performing Verdi's world famous operas La Traviata and Il Trovatore in the Gallus concert hall, as well as Die Rheinnixen by Offenbach, which had its world premiere in Ljubljana this spring, and Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake. On Saturday at noon local hunters fired cannons near the Najevska linden tree on Ludranski Vrh, a hill above Črna na Koroškem to mark the start of the 15th anniversary meeting of statesmen beneath the tree. There is a tradition of political debates being held beneath linden trees in this part of the world, and this is Slovenia's oldest linden. More »

Last week the Government passed the decree implementing the Act on Incentives for Foreign Direct Investment and Company Internationalisation. The decree sets out the theoretical and practical background to allocating financial incentives. Alongside political debates, there is a conference on violence against children held in Ljubljana and
numerous festivals are taking place around Slovenia; the biggest among them the Ljubljana Summer Festival.

The 53rd Ljubljana Summer Festival opened its doors on Monday. A total of 62 events of different genres ranging from opera, ballet, and dance performances to symphonic, chamber, vocal, ethno, jazz and Latino concerts, exhibitions, artistic communities will take place. For the second consecutive year people will be able to enjoy "Cinema Beneath the Stars" an open-air cinema at Ljubljana Castle.
