Miha Pogacnik Named New High Representative for Succession Issues

The government has named Miha Pogacnik, an expert on international law, as the new high representative for succession to the former Yugoslavia. Pogacnik has succeeded Rudi Gabrovec, who has been ambassador to Denmark for over a year.

Pogacnik will also act as the government's proxy for negotiations on foreign exchange deposits that the successor states are carrying out under the auspices of the Basel-based Bank for International Settlements.
The new high representative has previously been advisor to the Foreign Ministry for international affairs and an advisor on succession issues, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The framework succession agreement, which governs the division of assets held by the former Yugoslavia, entered into force in June 2004 after all five successor states finally signed the document that was agreed and signed in June 2001.
