Spanish Cultural Centre Opens in Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 21 April

The Spanish arts and cultural centre, named Aula Cervantes, officially opened its doors in Ljubljana on Thursday, offering a library, a reading club and language courses and exams for students and lovers of Spanish language and culture.

The opening of Aula Cervantes, which is a unit of the Institut Cervantes, comes three years after an agreement on establishing the centre was signed between the Spanish King Juan Carlos and the University of Ljubljana.
The project was delayed due to lengthy administration procedures and renovation works, explained Teodro Conde, secretary general of the Institut Cervantes, at the opening ceremony.
Mitja Skubic, retired professor of the Spanish Department at the Ljubljana Faculty of Arts, meanwhile expressed hope that the department might soon move to the premises of Aula Cervantes, located in the Prule quarter.
Ferran Ferrando of the Munich-based cultural centre explained that Aula Cervantes will cooperate with Slovenian educational institutions that offer Spanish classes. He also noted that Spanish language and culture have been gaining on popularity in Slovenia.
