The Society of Slovenian-Austrian Friendship is organising Days of Carinthian Culture in Ljubljana for the second year in a row. Carinthian Slovenians wish to present their cultural activity to the people in their homeland.
The event will take place from 26 April until 14 May, the president of the society Jozef Jeraj has told a press conference recently. The organisers would be happy to see a large audience in the Slovenian capital.
The festival will open with a film by Janko Zerzer about the Austrian province of Carinthia and the men's choir "Villagers Sing" will sing Carinthian folk songs.
On 10 May, the parliament will host a round table about Slovenians in Austria. Among the current issues, the reasons for a strong assimilation in Austria's Carinthia are to be debated alongside Austria's (non-)implementation of the Austrian State Treaty, added Jeraj.
Secretary of a Slovenian minority organisation Janko Malle emphasised the importance of culture as the bond between all Slovenians, although the media are only focusing on the "political issues" of Slovenians abroad.
During the days of culture, the painter Franc Wiegele will exhibit his works at the Slovenian World Congress. Chamber choir "Danica" from Austria's Carinthia will give a concert at the Slovenian Philharmonic Society on 12 May.
On the last day of the festival, a young group of Carinthian Slovenian actors will stage a play "Martin Krpan", adapted by Miran Herzog. The songs in the play, written by Slovenian poet Svetlana Makarovic, were set to music by acclaimed Carinthian composer Edi Oraze.
