Vizjak Highlights Economic Benefits of EU Accession
Vienna, 14 April
"After the first year of membership, the economic advantages of EU accession are becoming clear in the EU newcomers," Economics Minister Andrej Vizjak told a round-table analysing the first year of membership for the ten newcomers.
After accession, none of the new members had any shocks or any unexpected drastic changes, he told the conference in Vienna, which was attended by economics ministers from all ten newcomers.
Vizjak also used the occasion to hold talks with Austrian Economics and Labour Minister Martin Bartenstein about the free flow of labour.
"Austria has shown willingness to soften its position on the multi-year restriction of the free flow of labour," Vizjak stressed, adding that talks with Austria will continue.
