Print this page
Luxembourg, 12 April

Slovenia has the highest rate for the employment of women with children under 12 in the EU, according to a survey released on Tuesday by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office. While the EU average was 60 percent in 2003, Slovenia's was 85 percent, according to the survey.

The survey, entitled "Reconciling Work and Family Life in the EU25 in 2003", indicates that the average employment rate for women without children was 75 percent, while only 60 percent of those with children were in full-time employment.
Alongside Denmark, Slovenia is also the only EU country where the employment rate for women with children under 12 is higher than for those without young children.
The employment rate varies considerably across the EU, from 85 percent in Slovenia and 80 percent in Denmark, to 27 percent in Malta and 50 percent in Italy and Hungary.
