A show featuring works of Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979), an all-round avant-garde artist from Paris, opened in Ljubljana on Thursday evening.
Dresses, photos, theatre customs, poster drafts, drawings, prints, book covers and many more were put on display at the International Centre of Graphic Art (MGLC).
The show, entitled "Simultanke, The Creative World of Sonia Delaunay", will run until 19 May. It was curated by Guy Schraenen, and is accompanied by a catalogue in Slovenian and English.
Delaunay has received many awards, and became the first woman ever to be exhibited at the Louvre during her lifetime. At the outset of the 20th century she moved from Russia to Paris, where she became one of the pioneers of Orphism.
Orphism, which later on also became known as Simultanism, was an art movement based in Cubism, but determined to bring new lyrcism and colour to the rather severe works of Picasso and Braque.
The Simultanke exhibition has been put on in collaboration with several French arts institutions, including "Bibliotheque nationale de France", which lent the MGLC Delaunay's works of art.
