Slovenia Opens Its Third Consulate in Argentina
Slovenia has opened its third consulate in Argentina, a country with a sizable Slovenian expat community. The consulate in Mendoza, the capital of the province of the same name, was inaugurated on Friday. It will be headed by honorary consul Joze Smon.
The other two Slovenian consulates are situated in Moreno, in the province of Buenos Aires, and in Bariloche, in Patagonia. Slovenia also has its embassy in Buenos Aires.
The Mendosa province along the border with Chile is home to some 400 Slovenian families, according to the Slovenian embassy. The province has a population two million.
In his address to the inauguration ceremony, Slovenia's Ambassador Bojan Grobovsek said the opening of a consulate in Mendoza was also in recognition of the Slovenians there for what they did for the promotion of relations between Slovenia and Argentina.
