Tourist Numbers Soar in Ljubljana

The Slovenian capital proved very popular with tourists last year, as the city registered 264,460 holidaymakers, up 23 percent over the year before.

Foreign guests accounted for over 90% of all tourists, according to the Ljubljana Tourism Board, while the number of domestic visitors dropped by 7% to just over 18,000.
Ljubljana thus played host to over 30,000 Italians (up 19%) and more than 27,000 guests from Great Britain, double the figure compared to 2003.
Tourists from Great Britain started flooding in after the budget carrier Easyjet launched scheduled flights between London and Ljubljana in May 2004.
Large groups of tourists also came from Germany (24,795), Austria (14,672), France (14,263) and Croatia (10,971).
The Tourist Board says that although excellent results were expected, the figures exceeded all expectations.
