The government has approved SIT 24m (EUR 100,000) for the creation of NATO's fund for training Iraqi security forces. Moreover, the government took a decision to send weapons and equipment to the Iraqi security forces, although it refused to give details of the shipment.
Backing the plan for the creation of a NATO fund for the training of Iraqi police and army, the government decided to send SIT 24m (EUR 100,000) in cash for this purpose. The money will come from the Defence Ministry's budget.
Slovenia will help with the NATO mission by supplying instructors that will train the Iraqi security forces outside of Iraq.
The Defence Ministry said in a press release that Slovenia could provide training in the handling of arms in Jordan, given the Slovenian army's extensive knowledge of weapons of Eastern European origin.
The government today also allocated a large quantity of weapons and army equipment for the NATO mission. The equipment is expected to be sent to Iraq this month.
