Slovenian Unicef has raised some SIT 276m (EUR 1.15m) to help the victims of the December earthquake and tsunamis in South Asia, the charity organisation told a news conference on Monday.
According to Zora Tomic, president of the Slovenian committee, over 80,000 donors gave SIT 5,000 per person on average, in what is the highest volume of funds raised by the Slovenian Unicef so far.
Companies, which usually donate some 10 percent of the funds, contributed some 30 percent this time. The highest single donation among companies amounted to SIT 6m (EUR 25,000) and among individuals SIT 0.5m (EUR 2,100).
Given the strong response of the donors, the costs of the fund-raising campaign amounted to mere 5.7 percent of the funds collected, which is well below the usual costs, Unicef officials were pleased.
