Mozart in the Focus of New Dance Production by En-Knap

Ljubljana, 9 February

The Cankarjev dom arts centre is hosting the international dance group En Knap in February with its production "Mozart - Hype as I Wanna Be", which focuses on the icon of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The show, by choreographer and En Knap leader Iztok Kovac, will be on the programme on 11, 12 and 26 February. The production features Valeria Garre, Alexander Gottfarb, Carmen Larraz, Marc de Pablo, Snjezana Premus and Milan Tomasik.
Mozart has been brought to life as a fragmented series of his personal characteristics, his work and less known facts from the composer's life and its "side-tracks", according to En-Knap.
"The events and facts from four distinctly creative periods from Mozart's short life, which used to be driven by hypomanic episodes, are now recreated as dance images which draw from Mozart's compositional structures, his first serious opera "Idomeneo", the trouble with censorial bans on ballet in the opera, the piano competition in improvisation in front of the Kaiser," the group says.
In specific En-Knapian language, intertwined in a quilt with music by Tomaz Grom, which has been written together with the choreographer and the dancers, the performance brings to life the stage as a unique junction of moving associative connections and disconnections, according to Katja Praznik, the theatre critic who worked on this En-Knap project.
The international dance group En-Knap was founded in 1993 in Leuven in Belgium under the wings of the production managing house Stuc and the Klapstuk Festival. It has been seated in Ljubljana since 1994.
Iztok Kovac, the founder of the group, is the author of a number of dance productions and four films, which featured over 100 artists from Europe, America and Asia.
Kovac, who is Slovenian, organises workshops and auditions in major cultural capitals and is hosted by major international dance festivals. Since 1991 there have been over 400 reruns of his productions and films.
