Govt Allocates EUR 101M Worth of Direct Payments for Agriculture

Ljubljana, 27 January

The government has adopted a package of measures relating to the regulation of agricultural markets in 2005, which set the total of direct payments for this year at SIT 24.3bn (EUR 101m). Along with other measures adopted on Thursday, the government earmarked more than SIT 56bn (EUR 233.6m) for agriculture, Minister Marija Lukacic said after the session on Thursday.

According to the minister of agriculture, forestry and food, the cabinet adopted changes to the decree on programmes of agricultural structural policy and agricultural policy of regional development for 2005 and 2006 and a decree on payments for regional development programmes for 2005.
Direct payments for 2005 amount to 90 percent of direct payments in old EU member states, except for shellfish and olive oil production where the level is 60 percent, Lukacic said. The EU will provide 30 percent of the funds, while the rest will be funded from the state budget.
Out of the total of SIT 24.323bn (EUR 101.45m) worth of direct payments, SIT 8.833bn (EUR 36.84m) is allocated for field produce, SIT 14.5bn (EUR 60.48m) for cattle breeding, SIT 512m (EUR 2.14m) for sheep and goats, and SIT 439m (EUR 1.83m) for other production (seeds, hops, shellfish, olive oil and pumpkin seed oil).
