Economics Minister Andrej Vizjak has promised small-business owners that the government would address their greatest problems - tax legislation, inflexible labour market and red tape. "You can expect a favourable support environment for business, a stable legal framework and the promotion of conditions for economic growth," Vizjak told the Chamber of Trade on Wednesday.
The Chamber of Trade and the ministry will form a special team that will examine legislation that small businesses perceive as the most problematic. "We have to create a better climate for the development of small businesses with the help of the state, so we wish for good cooperation with the government, said the head of the chamber's management board Stefan Pavlinjek.
Tax legislation was singled out by both sides as the greatest problem. "The work of the lowest income groups cannot get (tax) relief at the expense of the economy," Vizjak said. He said the government is unanimous that tax reform must result in a new law not just "cosmetic correction" of the existing legislation.
The representatives of small enterprises agreed that the tax legislation must be thoroughly overhauled. In particular, greater tax breaks must be introduced for small businesses, so that they can invest more in growth and development, they said.
According to Miroslav Klun, the chamber's president, it is also necessary to update and consistently implement the government's anti-red tape programme. We have to eliminate all administrative obstacles to growth, he stressed, and simplify administrative procedures.
