Five Slovenian companies have come in among top 100 firms from the ten EU newcomers. Slovenia's top company according to revenue is petrol retailer Petrol, which is 40th on the list.
According to the Prague-based consultancy Central European Capital, Petrol generated revenues of EUR 1.21 billion in 2004, which is more than 6 times less than the leading company on the list, Poland's oil company Naftowy Orlen.
The other Slovenian companies in the top 100 from the newcomers are car maker Revoz (EUR 769m), bank Nova Ljubljanska banka (EUR 762.9m), retailer Mercator (EUR 724.8m) and drug maker Lek (EUR 644.5m).
The study found that the biggest companies come from Poland - six of the top 13 companies are from the biggest of the ten countries that joined the EU in May 2004.
The report also predicts that the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia will register economic growth of between 3.6 and 4.8 percent this year.
