Brussels, 21 January

Anton Kokalj, the chair of the parliamentary EU affairs committee, has agreed on closer cooperation between the committee and Slovenian officials in EU institutions.

It has been agreed that the Slovenian member of the European Commission, Janez Potocnik, would present to the committee the Lisbon Strategy reform and a five-year strategic programme of the new European Commission. The two documents are to be confirmed in early February or late January.
Kokalj agreed with the Slovenian deputies in the European Parliament that the committee and the MEPs would keep each other informed and would cooperate on issues that the MEPs are following.
Kokalj also met the president of the Committee of the Regions Peter Straub and representatives of the European Parliament department in charge of relations with national parliaments.
It was agreed that training would be provided in the Slovenian parliament for assistants about the adoption procedures of the EU legislation and the competences of EU institutions.
The parliamentary EU affairs committee, headed by Kokalj, is the key working body discussing EU issues according to the act on the cooperation between the parliament and the government on EU issues.
