Slovenian Internet Content Expanding Rapidly

Ljubljana, 18 January

Slovenian content on the World Wide Web amounts to around 8.7 million documents, 67 percent more than in December 2003, according to figures from the country's top search engine.

Text content tops the list of Slovenian Internet content, with 4.8 million documents, followed by images (3.2 million), audio (42,000) and video (14,000) documents, Noviform, the company behind Najdi.si.
A breakdown of the figures shows that the volume of multimedia content has been growing the fastest, with the number of music and video files up 114 percent and 250 percent respectively.
According to Najdi.si, the reason for this is the expansion of broadband, such as ADSL and cable, which has facilitated the sharing of multimedia files that are much larger than plain text.
Najdi.si is the most popular search engine in Slovenia, registering 120,000 users and 700,000 queries daily. It is used by as much as 85 percent of all Slovenian Internet users.
