The government has approved a further SIT 44 millions (EUR 0.18m) for the victims of the 26 December earthquake and tsunami in south and southeastern Asia. The aid would be intended mainly for children.
The government's contribution thus increased to SIT 88 million (EUR 0.37m). Foreign Ministry State Secretary Bozo Cerar said SIT 20m (EUR 83,400) out of the sum approved would go for programmes of rehabilitation and psycho-social assistance to traumatised children, the most affected group of victims.
Concrete projects and models of assistance will be drawn up on the basis of the experiences that Slovenia has gained in working with the children in the Western Balkans and Iraq, through the Together Foundation.
Cerar told the press after the govt session that Slovenia would also contribute SIT 12m (EUR 50,000) to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and as much for medical relief to be provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Slovenian government, companies and citizens have so far raised a total of more than SIT 260m (EUR 1.08m) for the victims of the Asian disaster, or EUR 0.6 per capita.
