Non-residential Japanese Ambassador to Slovenia Itaru Umezu, who was on Monday received by Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, announced that Japan was planning to open an embassy in Ljubljana at the beginning of 2006.
Ambassador Umezu, who is seated in Vienna, said that the Japanese budget for 2005 foresaw funds for the opening of a Japanese embassy to Slovenia, the Foreign Ministry said.
The pair agreed that relations between the two countries are good and friendly, according to the ministry.
Minister Rupel presented to the ambassador the priorities of the Slovenian presidency of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2005, saying that strengthening the cooperation with Asian partners would be one of them.
