Mercator - Largest Business Group in Slovenia in 2003

Mercator is the biggest business group in Slovenia with its SIT 331.5bn (EUR 1.4bn) of consolidated revenues and SIT 5.9bn (EUR 24.6m) of net profit in 2003. The group also anticipates a 12 percent increase in revenues to SIT 40bn (EUR 166.8m) in 2004. Its net profit in the same year is expected to reach around SIT 6bn (EUR 25m).

By last year's consolidated revenues, Mercator, Slovenia's largest retailer, is followed by oil retailer Petrol with SIT 303.6bn (EUR 1.3bn), home appliances producer Gorenje with SIT 196.2bn (EUR 818.2m) and another oil retailer, OMV Adriatic, with SIT 157.1bn (EUR 655.2m).
According to the business magazine Gospodarski vestnik's scale of biggest groups, the fifth place is occupied by pharmaceutical company Lek, whose revenues were SIT 143.8bn (EUR 599.7m) and a net profit of SIT 27.7bn (EUR 115.5m) last year. Coming in next is hardware retailer Merkur with SIT 142.6bn (EUR 594.7m) of revenues and a profit of SIT 2.3bn (EUR 2.9m). Both companies are to post more than a 20 percent rise in consolidated sales.
With SIT 133.5bn (EUR 556.8m) of consolidated revenues and SIT 10.3bn (EUR 43m) of clear profit in 2003, the national telco Telekom Slovenije came in seventh. The group is planning a 10 percent revenues increase this year.
Telekom is followed by car-seat covers manufacturer Prevent with SIT 116.6bn (EUR 486.3m) of revenues, which will be a bit lower this year. Following is the national grid operator ELES with SIT 115.6bn (EUR 482.1m), Holding Slovenske elektrarne with SIT 107bn (EUR 446.2m) and pharmaceutical company Krka with SIT 100.9bn (EUR 420.8m). Krka expects a 12 percent increase in revenues this year.
