The government has reorganised public administration bodies in a bid to rationalize the work of ministries and avoid the doubling of tasks. The cabinet has also decided to remove from the agenda some bills already in parliamentary procedure, among others the systemic bill on the erased, the local self-government bill and changes to the constitution concerning referendums.
The government decided not to continue with the adoption procedure of the systemic bill on the erased, the second piece of legislation aimed at reinstating the permanent residency of people who were unlawfully erased from the permanent residency register in 1992.
The cabinet will also not move ahead with the adoption of the act on self-government and changes to the constitution pertaining to referendums.
Public Administration Minister Gregor Virant told the press on Thursday that it has been decided that the problems addressed in the local self-government bill should be dealt with by the minister in charge of local self-government.
As for the constitutional changes to referendum, Virant said that the new government was not in favour of shrinking the rights to referendum. He said however the government did advocate "rationalisation". According to Virant, the constitutional changes proposed by the former government were not in line with the new government's guidelines.
