Even recent health problems could not stop the excellent Slovenian gymnast Mitja Petkovsek who reached for gold at the parallel bars finals of the Gymnastics World Cup held this weekend in the UK. Slovenian swimmer Peter Mankoc won gold in men's 100m individual medley at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Vienna on Sunday.
With his performance that brought him 9.787 points Petkovšek beat China's Huang Xu, who won silver, and Romania's Marius Urzica. The Gymnastics World Cup Final is the highlight of the international gymnastics calendar and brings together the world's best gymnasts, the organiser's state.
In what was his fifth consecutive victory in this event, Mankoc (53.05) beat Austria's Markus Rogan (53.64) and Germany's Oliver Wenzel (54.14).
Slovenia's Tadeja Brankovic finished second in women's 7.5-kilometre sprint race at the biathlon World Cup in Norway's Holmenkollen on Saturday in what was the first World Cup podium finish in her career.
Slovenia's Tina Maze presented quite a surprise at the Women's World Cup super-G competition in Austria's Altenmarkt on Saturday by crossing the finish line third with a start number of 64 and scoring the best super-G result of her career.
Maze (1:13.56) finished behind the winner Alexandra Meissnitzer of Austria (1:13.04) and Italy's Lucia Recchia (1:13.32).
Slovenian swimmer Emil Tahirovic won bronze in 50m breaststroke at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Vienna on Saturday.
Tahirovic (27.17) finished behind Ukraine's Oleg Lisogor (27.13), the winner of the race, and Russia's Roman Sloudnov (27.09).
Another Slovenian, Matjaz Markic, came in fourth (27.36).
