Zoran Stancic, outgoing Slovenian state secretary, has been appointed deputy director general in the EU Directorate-General for Research.
Stancic, who has worked as state secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, will be working in the directorate that falls under the responsibility of Slovenian Commissioner Janez Potocnik.
Stancic is one of only three director general deputies who come from the EU newcomers, European Voice reports in its latest edition. The paper adds that representatives of the newcomers have so far occupied only a handful of a total of 265 senior posts in the European Commission.
While a total of 8 posts of rank A1 (general directors and their deputies) and 29 posts of rank A2 (directors) have been reserved for the new members, only four have been appointed so far.
