Slovenia Gives Aid for Demobilised Bosnian Soldiers

Sofia/Ljubljana, 5 December

Slovenia has earmarked EUR 20,000 for the reintegration of demobilised soldiers from Bosnia-Herzegovina, a joint programme of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the International Organisation for Migration.

Slovenia has been active as a donor country within the OSCE, whose helm it will take over in 2005. This year it has already contributed EUR 20,000 for the OSCE academy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, US$ 5,000 for the UN Economic Commission for Europe, and EUR 20,000 for the World Bank fund for the education of Roma. Slovenia would like to contribute its experience and knowledge about the region to finding solutions for sustainable peace and stability in the Western Balkans. Economic prosperity of the region is essential, so the countries must pursue reforms in key areas, something that is conditional on stabilisation.
