Parliament is expected to take a vote on the ministerial line-up put forward by the incoming PM Janez Jansa on Friday. However, MPs will convene for an emergency session already on Thursday, so as to pass amendments to tax legislation in an emergency procedure.
The agenda of both emergency sessions was adopted at Monday's meeting of the speaker of parliament and heads of deputy groups.
Parliament will take a vote on the cabinet as a whole instead of voting on each candidate separately. A simple majority is needed for the cabinet's appointment.
Given that the incoming government has a four-seat majority in the 90-seat parliament, no trouble is expected in the appointment of the new cabinet.
Prior to Friday's session, all ministerial nominees need to undergo hearings in the relevant parliamentary committees. Their opinion on the nominees is not binding, though, which means the prime minister-designate does not have to replace a candidate in case he or she fails to get approval.
On Thursday, MPs are due to debate a package of three amendments to acts that make up the tax reform undertaken by the outgoing government. The changes concern the corporate income act, the tax procedure act and the tax administration act.
The need for the bills is dictated by changes in EU regulations, a ruling by the Constitutional Court and the incompatibilities in a number of amendments passed by parliament to the acts in the tax reform, the government said as it presented the bills.
Apart from the amendments to tax legislation, parliament is also due to make some appointments, including the members of the commission monitoring the work of intelligence and security services and members of the corruption prevention commission.
