Slovenian Art Promoted in Seattle

Seatlle, 17 November

The Week of Slovenian Avant-garde Art was launched in Seattle, US, on Friday, with the opening of the exhibition called "State of Time" by the art collective Irwin and a film "Sweet Dreams" by director Saso Podgorsek.

The festival will showcase 18 feature films, documentaries and short films.
Special attention was paid to the American editions of novels by contemporary writer Miha Mazzini and the English translation of Vladimir Bartol's "Alamut".
"Alamut" is a novel based on historical events in the 11th century Persia and illustrates some aspects of Islamic blind faith. It was published in 1938.
Of the filmmakers, the organisers have invited Miha Mazzini, Saso Podgorsek, Maja Weiss and Peter Braatz.
According to the Slovenian Film Fund, the other films that will be screened during the festival are "Spare Parts", "Guardian of the Frontier", "Dark Angels", "Tanz mit Laibach", "Predictions of Fire", "The Road of Fraternity And Unity", "House of Freedom", "Vertigo Bird", "Orphan with the Magic Voice", "Glazier Blues", "Adrian", "(A)Torsion", "The Poem to My Homeland", "Hop, Skip & Jump" and "You're Free. Decide.".
The main organisers of the event are the Northwest Film Forum cinematheque and the Scala House Press publishing house. The Northwest Film Forum is a non-profit organisation and the only cinematheque in Seattle that supports year-round programmes of independent films.
The Scala House Press publishes the works of less known writers, among others Bartol's "Alamut" and four Mazzini's books: "The Cartier Project","Bald", "Guarding Hanna" "King of Rattling Spirits".
This is the fifth time for Damjan Kozole's "Spare Parts" to travel to the US. The film is a tragic story about an embittered widower who spends his nights transporting illegal refugees in his van from Croatia across Slovenia into Italy,
Its distributor is CCV Film, which is known for its patronage of important films such as Pedro Almodovar's "All About my Mother", Roman Polanski's "Pianist", Larry Clark's "Ken Park" and Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Dreamers".
