Computer Sales Soar in Q3

Ljubljana, 15 November

Sales of computers in Slovenia were up 33.6 percent year-on-year in the third quarter, according to IT and telecommunications analyst IDC. In terms of units and sales volumes, desktop computers still have the largest market share, but notebooks are catching up fast.

Desktop computers, accounting for 76.4 percent of the market in terms of units, were up 26.5 percent, yet their market share in terms of sales volumes dropped to 59.7 percent, IDC data suggests.
Notebook computers, which saw sales soar 70.7 percent over the year before, have a 20.4 percent market share in terms of units and 28.5 percent in terms of volume. Server sales increased 3.3 percent year-on-year and now account for 11.8 percent of the market.
The most popular computer brand is Slovenia's Comtron, which had a 19.3 percent market share in unit sales, followed by Hewlett-Packard (18.1 percent) and IBM (9.2 percent). Slovenia's Acord-92 with 7.4 percent and Avtera with 6.7 percent round up the list of biggest computer merchants.
