The Slovenian Armed Forces have launched what are the biggest war games this year at the Pocek training grounds in the southwest of the country. The "Skok 2004" (Jump 2004) military exercises are aimed at testing the army's combat efficiency and operational capabilities in deployment in integrated military structures of NATO.
The most demanding exercise featured at Jump 2004 will be the one carried out by the first brigade in cooperation with combat support units and other armed forces unit.
The exercises feature more than 1,000 troops, complete with 200 transport, off-road and special purpose vehicles, four M 84 tanks, 21 valuk light armoured vehicles, four PC 9 aircraft, four bell helicopters, four Cougar multi-purpose helicopters and a eurobridge.
The exercises, launched today, will be under way until 29 October. According to the Defence Ministry, military vehicles will be moving along the main roads leading towards Postojna until Friday, while they are expected to travel in the opposite direction on 28 and 29 October.
