New Record and a Diamond for Slovenian Runner in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, 17 October

Marathon athlete Helena Javornik won the international marathon in Amsterdam on Sunday, where she beat her own Slovenian record and won a glittering prize. The time of 2:27,32 brought her over two minutes ahead of Kenya's Emily Kimuria, as well as EUR 10,000 and a EUR 5,000 worth diamond.

"I'm happy I won this very important world marathon, although I had hoped for a result that would have been some 2.5 minutes faster than this one," Javornik said after the marathon.
During the hard run, where the athletes were hindered by rain and strong winds, Javornik was helped by marathon runner Roman Kejzar who helped her keep the pace.
She was especially impressed with the atmosphere at the event, where the large crowds by the side of the road and music bands boosted athletes' spirits.
Javornik has had a successful season this year. After setting a new national record at 10,000-metre run in Athens, she also set new Slovenian records at half-marathon in Luxembourg and now in the Netherlands.
- Results, women:
1. Helena Javornik (Slo) 2:27,32, Slovenian record
2. Emily Kimuria (Ken) 2:29,45
3. Tigiste Abidi (Eti) 2:33,24
