Drnovsek Calls Maiden Session of Parliament for 22 October

Ljubljana, 13 October

President Janez Drnovsek has called the maiden session of the newly elected parliament for Friday, 22 October, after he received the official results of the 3 October general election.

Within 7 days after the first session, the parties must form deputy groups and name their leaders according to the parliament's standing orders.
That way, President Drnovsek will be able to hold formal talks with all heads of deputy groups to determine whom he will name prime minister-designate.
The likeliest PM-designate is Janez Jansa, the president of the Slovenian Democrats (SDS), which won 29 seats in the 90-seat legislature.
The SDS is still short of an outright majority, as it has 45 seats together with its closely affiliated New Slovenia (NSi) and People's Party (SLS).
