Teharje, 10 October

A central monument to the victims of post-Second World War summary executions of suspected Nazi collaborators by the partisans was unveiled at the village of Teharje in eastern Slovenia on Sunday.

Speaking at the ceremony to mark the unveiling of the monument, Parliament Speaker Feri Horvat said the executions were the work of the then authorities and that the monument was the state's way of paying the due respect to the victims of the summary killings at Teharje.
The Teharje monument is also an important step forward in national reconciliation, Horvat said, adding that Slovenians should overcome "the traumas of the past" and attempt to build a more tolerant future.
As part of the ceremony, Maribor Bishop Franc Kramberger gave mass, using his sermon to assert that Teharje "was the site of a massacre of apocalyptic proportions".
