Heavy Rain Causing Flooding in Parts of Slovenia
Ljubljana, 10 October
Heavy rain over the weekend has caused flooding in parts of Slovenia as a number of rivers and creeks have swelled to dangerous levels.
The situation was worst in southwestern and central Slovenia where a tributary leading to the Sora river and another flowing into the Ljubljanica have overflowed causing flooding on local roads.
As a result of local flooding, the highway between Ljubljana and Ivancna Gorica has been closed near Grosuplje, some 20 km south of Ljubljana.
A number of local roads have also been closed by overflowing streams, including the regional road Polhov Gradec - Ljubljana, where the Gradascica creek has overflowed.
The heavy rain has also caused minor mudslides around the country.
