Neue Slowenische Kunst in Photographs
An exhibition of photographs by Jože Suhadolnik featuring the Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) group is to open in the Fotografija photo gallery of Ljubljana.
Jože Suhadolnik, a renowned Slovene photographer, belongs to the generation of photographers who were established in the eighties. The Fotografija gallery presents a selection of his 31 works, documenting the activities and events of all sections of Neue Slowenische Kunst in the period between 1984 and 1999. The exhibition includes pictures from concerts of the Laibach group, presentations of their records and events happening behind the scene. There are also exhibited a series of portraits of Irwin group members and pictures from the opening of the NSK Embassy in Moscow. Pictures from the NSK theatre productions include a staging by the Scipion Nasice Sisters Theatre and the Observatory performance by Dragan Živadinov.
The NSK came into being in 1984 as a big collective, an organisation and a kind of trade union of various artistic groups, drawing together ways of thinking and expression. Main NSK groups are Laibach, Irwin, Noordung, New Collectivism and Department of Pure and Applied Philosophy. In 1991 the NSK organisation transformed into the NSK state, now opening its representative offices around the world.
