Slovenia will partake in the European mobility week activities, encouraging city dwellers to use environmentally-friendly modes of transportation.
Safe streets for children will be the hot topic for this year's Mobility Week, the objective of which is to reduce road safety risks for children, one of the most vulnerable groups in the traffic equation. Most accidents, in fact, occur on the way to and from school.
Ljubljana, last year's winner of the European Commission award of the competition from among 732 cities considered, has closed its old city centre to traffic. Public buses operate on the circular road of the city centre's inner ring. A city bike rental service, together with a program monitoring air pollution, noise and dust particle levels have been organized. Mobility Week activities will take place in other towns and cities in Slovenia as well, and wrap up on September 22, with the traditional Car-Free Day event.
