Slovenia Remains a Net Recipient in the Following Financial Period

Ljubljana, September 17

Slovenia reportedly remains a net recipient of Structural support from European Funds in the EU’s future financial perspective.

European Budget Commissioner's press attaché Eric Mamer recently offered assurances that Slovenia will remain, a net recipient of resources from the Union’s budget for the period 2007 – 2013. Early this week, the Slovenian public was stirred up by the news that, according to the European Commission's latest calculations, Slovenia will surpass the 75 per cent of the European GNP average level upon accession of Romania and Bulgaria, and will thus no longer be eligible for contributions from the Structural Funds intended for less developed regions. Slovenia has been slated to receive 4.1 billion euros over the next seven years explicitly from these funds.
