At its latest session, the government discussed the law amending the State Attorney Act and called for balanced gender representation.
The government has now determined the wording of the proposed law amending the State Attorney Act, which gives more powers to state attorneys representing the state before foreign and international courts. The amendment proposed by the government grants state attorneys competence to participate in the preparation of government opinions on and answers to the reasoned opinions of the Commission of the European Communities. The new law shall entrust a state attorney to represent the public interest in administrative disputes, in matters of liability for damages incurred by persons in criminal proceedings, proceedings under the Minor Offences Act and in proceedings concerning the revision of public procurement procedures.
The government also adopted a regulation requiring adherence to the principle of balanced gender representation. Accordingly, each gender should enjoy a 40% rate of representation in individual government bodies, expert councils or entities governed by public law. In its efforts to pursue the principle of balanced gender representation, Slovenia follows a resolution of the European Parliament and Council of Europe acts.
