Slovenia’s traditional Vilenica literature award was presented this past Saturday evening in the Vilenica cave. This year the award was bestowed upon German writer Briggite Kronauer.
The Vilenica international literature meeting, which enjoys an extremely rich tradition, marked the event’s 19th consecutive year and was held at a number of venues, most of them in the Karst region. The event hosted 40 writers from 29 countries. A number of readings, translation workshops, group discussions, presentations of national literatures as well as informal gatherings were organised. This year’s Vilenica debate focussed on Slovene writers Srečko Kosovel and Edvard Kocbek.
The festival spotlight illuminated this year's award winning German writer Briggite Kronauer, author of six novels, five collections of essays, as well as short novels and lyrics. The jury described her as Germany’s literary star, and critics celebrated her particular writing style.
