At its session on Thursday, the government adopted the information on the stance of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia towards the first package of legal proposals regarding the next EU financial perspective.
This information is Slovenia’s response to the first package of financial and legal proposals related to the next financial perspective, which was adopted by the European Commission on 14 July 2004. Slovenia’s view is that the content of these proposals provides solid grounds for further debate on the next financial perspective, defining budgets for the period from 2007 through the end of 2013. The proposals offer support to those areas which are of key importance for the implementation of the Lisbon Strategy targets, which sees the EU becoming the most competitive and knowledge-based economy in the world by the end of the decade. More funds are to be allocated for competitiveness, growth and employment, and a substantially greater sum for science, research and education. Moreover, the European Commission gives due weight to the cohesion policy. In this context, Slovenia is particularly satisfied that Brussels “gives due weight” to the so-called statistical effects of the EU enlargement.
