The government has adopted a proposal to allocate funds in the government budget to finance the operations of the Centre of Support for Accession to the European Union in 2005.
In line with the proposed funding and in consideration of the Centre programme, the government shall earmark SIT 240 million (approximately € 1 million) in the budget of the Government Office for European Affairs (SVEZ). The Centre relies on donations by interested European states.
The Centre is to function as an instrument of support for countries with European prospects, facilitating the transfer of know-how, experience and practical advice between the EU member states and countries with European prospects) in the establishment of relevant institutional, personnel and organisational capacity on the way towards accession to the European Union. At the initiation of the Centre’s operations, Slovenia is to host a conference on 17 September, serving as a venue gathering both European states ready to offer support and countries interested in receiving support, comprised primarily of the countries of south-eastern Europe.
