Election campaigns have begun precisely one month before the elections to the National Assembly, to take place on Sunday, 3rd October.
Campaigning will end at midnight on 1st October, when the period of electoral silence begins. All parliamentary and some non-parliamentary parties will run for the seats in the country’s ninety-member parliament.
There are 39 political parties in the register of political parties and it remains to be seen how many parties will actually register their lists of candidates. The deadline for registering lists of candidates is midnight 8th September. Campaigning is regulated by special rules, stipulated in the Elections Campaign Act. According to the Republic Electoral Commission there are 1,634,266 voters registered in the electoral register of citizens of the Republic of Slovenia with permanent residence in Slovenia and abroad.
