Slovenia is a country "in a draught", it is only a step from the highest peak of Triglav to the sea, the Dinarid massif reaches to us from the Balkan peninsular, in Prekmurje we can sense the wide plains of the Pannonian lowlands. The geographic variety is also reflected in the colourful plant cover. Around 3000 higher plants (ferns and seed-bearing plants) grow on this small corner of our planet, which is a very large number. Approximately 70 plants are endemic, found nowhere else in the world. More than two hundred years ago, the very variety of the plant world attracted natural historians to this land, who saw many plants for the first time here, described them and named them after local places or local people.
