Dr Ivan Žagar
Ivan Žagar was born in Maribor on 12 January 1962. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the Technical Faculty of the University of Maribor in 1986 and was awarded his doctorate in 1992. He also studied at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. In 1990 he won a national award for young researchers. He is the author of several published works and his articles have appeared in numerous domestic and foreign publications. He was elected Mayor of the Slovenska Bistrica municipality in 1994. Since Slovenia's accession to the EU he has been an alternate member of the EU Committee of the Regions.
