Marjeta Cotman

Marjeta Cotman was born in Ptuj on 2 October 1956. She graduated from the Ljubljana Faculty of Law in 1984, and following articled probation at the Maribor Higher Court and passing the bar exam she took employment at the Municipality of Ormoľ as property law officer and as a General Administrative Procedure (GAP) inspector. In 1988 she was employed at the Slovenian Geodetic Administration as an independent advisor for administrative legal affairs. In 1992 she took a job at the Ministry of Justice and Administration as advisor to the minister for the area of conscientious objection to military duty. This was followed by employment at the National Assembly, where she was head of the Petitions Section and secretary of the Commission for Petitions. From 1996 to 2003 she was a member of the examining board for the professional exam for general and specialised GAP workers.

From 2003 up until her appointment as state secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, she was a misdemeanours judge in Ljubljana. In 2004 she was also a member of the examining commission for the professional exams for conducting and deciding in misdemeanours procedures at the Administrative Academy of the Ministry of the Interior.

On 18 December 2006 she was appointed Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs.
