Dragutin Mate
Dragutin Mate was born on 2 May 1963 in Čakovec. He holds a degree in defence studies. In 1989 he was employed as a teacher at the Poljane gymnasium in Ljubljana. In 1990 he began working at the Ministry of Defence, where he has held various posts. From 1990 to the middle of 1991 he was deputy sector chief for Civil Defence and a member of the Republic Civil Defence Staff. In 1991 he also worked in the Ministry's counterintelligence department. In 1992 he took up the post of international cooperation adviser in the office of the defence minister and was responsible for the Ministry of Defence's international cooperation. In 1994 he attended the Swiss International Relations University Seminar (SIRUS) for diplomats in Switzerland. In 1996 he took up the post of resident military and air force attaché in Bosnia-Herzegovina. During this period he also performed the duties of doyen of the military diplomatic corps in Bosnia-Herzegovina. After his return to Slovenia he served as deputy director of the Military Affairs Administration at the Ministry of Defence. He also qualified as a defence inspector and worked in that capacity. In 2000, under Andrej Bajuk's government, he was director of the Ministry of Defence's personnel service, before becoming director of the Defence Administration, Ljubljana.
