Milan Zver

Dr Milan Zver

Milan Zver was born on 25 May 1962 in Ljubljana. After completing a politics degree, he obtained a doctorate in political science from the Ljubljana University Faculty of Social Sciences. He then pursued further studies at the Karl-Franzens-Universität in Graz, Austria.

After serving as a government adviser (in the offices of the deputy prime minister Jože Pučnik and the defence minister Janez Janša) he occupied posts in the Ljubljana municipal administration and at the National Assembly. He is currently employed as a sociology lecturer at the Maribor University Faculty of Economics and Business.

He has written a series of original scholarly papers and works of political analysis, some of which have been published in the collection Politične razprave ŠPolitical EssaysĆ and the book Sto let demokracije na Slovenskem (A Hundred Years of Democracy in Slovenia). In 2002 he published the monograph Demokracija v klasični slovenski politični misli (Democracy in Traditional Slovene Political Thought).

He has been involved in the work of the executive bodies of the SDS since 1992, at first as an adviser and subsequently as a member. He is currently the chairman of the Council of the SDS. He is also active on the international political scene, for example within the context of the European People's Party or through political associations such as the International Republican Institute and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

He is currently serving his second term of office as a member of the Ljubljana Municipal Council and he was a member of the National Council during its last mandate.
