Andrej Vizjak MA

Andrej Vizjak was born on 6 August 1964 in Brežice. After graduating from the gymnasium in Brežice he studied at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, earning a master's degree in electrical engineering. His first job was at Litostroj in Ljubljana. He was later employed at the Jožef Stefan Institute, where he collaborated on research and development projects in the field of computer automatisation of industrial processes for the needs of Videm Krško, a cellulose and paper factory. In 1994 he was employed as a labour inspector at the Krško unit of the national Labour Inspectorate. In 2000 he occupied the position of state secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs.

He was elected to the National Assembly in the parliamentary 2000 elections and for four years was the leader of the SDS parliamentary group. His desire to play an active part in creating better conditions in his home municipality and the affirmation of the municipality of Brežice and the Posavje region within Slovenia as whole was the key reason for his participation in the 2002 local elections, at which he was elected the mayor of Brežice. In the parliamentery 2004 elections he was elected to the National Assembly once more.
