Celebration of 90th Anniversary of Russian Chapel below the Vršič Mountain Pass
Celebration of 90 th Anniversary of Russian Chapel below the Vršič Mountain Pass, the honorary patron of which is Prime Minister Janez Janša. High state representatives will attend the celebration, among which will be PM Janez Janša, Russian government delegation with the Chairman of the Russian Council of the Federation Sergey Mironov, delegation of Russian Orthodox Church and President of the European Parliament Josep Borrell. A special celebration will be dedicated to renaming a section of Kranjska gora – Vršič Road into Russian Road.

100 Years of Alpine Rail Line Transalpina
The 100th anniversary of the rail line between the northern Slovenian town of Jesenice and the western town of Nova Gorica, the last section of a line running from the Czech Republic to northern Italy, is to be celebrated with a ceremony in Nova Gorica on Saturday, 15 July 2006, at 6 p.m.. The ceremony in front of the Nova Gorica train station will include a varied arts programme, while members of the Slovenian government and invited guests, are scheduled to arrive to Nova Gorica on an old train. Prime Minister Janez Jansa is to be the keynote speaker at the ceremony. Special events on the anniversary are to be held in other towns along the line, including Jesenice, Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica, Most na Soci and Kanal.

Slovenia's Eurozone Membership
Minister of Finance Andrej Bajuk will take part in the session of the Council of the EU (ECOFIN). Slovenia is expected to get the final green light for joining the eurozone as EU finance ministers meet. The decision will complete the formalities required to make Slovenia the 13th member of the Eurozone. A press conference is scheduled for after the session, expectedly at 2 p.m., which is to be ensued by a special ceremony at Rond-Point Schuman to mark Slovenia's upcoming membership of the monetary union.

International Mathematical Olympiad
Between 6 and 18 July, the 47th International Mathematical Olympiad is taking place in Slovenia, attended by 522 secondary school students from 95 countries, the biggest number so far. The organisers, the Society of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers of Slovenia, believe that the most important features of such competitions are the promotion of mathematics and Slovenia, and an opportunity for the most successful competitors to be invited to study at the world's best universities. The Olympiad was opened yesterday, a day before the start of the official competition, by Milan Zver, the Minister of Education and Sport, while Jure Zupan, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Janez Mežan, the Director-General of the Directorate of Secondary, Higher Vocational and Adult Education at the Ministry of Education and Sport, expressed satisfaction at a press conference that Slovenia was hosting such a an important event. Together the ministries contributed SIT130 million (approx. €540,000) to the organisation of the event.

A memorial plaque is to be unveiled at the Foreign Ministry to mark 15 years since the adoption of the Brijuni Declaration. The agreement, signed by Slovenia, Croatia and the Yugoslav authorities under the aegis of the EU, froze for three months the implementation of Slovenia's and Croatia's independence.
